A Day of Flying and Airports

Our fearless leaders, Steve (left) and Ray (right) on the bus. We all made it safely through Paris, and into Damascus. The wait at Passport Control was a couple of hours, but we all made it through. Our tour guide (Walid) said, "Well, procedures are procedures. Our government assumes you are terrorists here, just like your government assumes that we are terrorists there." Interesting thought, huh? Ponder that for a moment...

There was also a bit of a luggage issue with Katie's red bag, and we all had the definite opportunity to sweat and appreciate A/C. We also were amazed at the different architecture of the homes, even from the plane. The desert here is beautiful, and we have already walked by some beautiful mosques. It is like entering a different world in some ways, but in other ways it feels just like Mexico City, except I can't read or speak the language.

Had a fantastic meal with many foods I had never tried before...like curry lamb meatballs, but even the things that I were't sure wat they were...I found out they were good. [Note for my wife: I did find a way to eat some chicken, and had bread with pesto on it!] However, my addition to caffeine may come to a screeching halt, as a con of Diet Coke was $5.00. For a cheap 36- year old raised during the depression, that hurt! I'll be drinking water from here on out at $4.00 per liter.

Emily says hi to her Mom, and she may try to call you on my cell phone, just to say YO! Also, Sonja got some wierd message that she did not understand, so if the person who left that message can respond with a comment on this blog - I'll get the messge to Sonja. In fact, If you have a message to leave, I will try to deliver to the appropriate person.

Shalom out,
Cayce

Glad you found some chicken and pesto. May it be plentiful! Keep up the writing, it helps me stay calm and I'm enjoying learning about the area and what you're up to.

Your loving wife,
Amy

P.S. Emma Kate, Cullom and Izzy say they love you and miss you and you're the best dad in the world.

Regarding Sonja's "weird" message. I suspect it was the "Love you, have a great trip" text message that I sent her.

Those of you who were born in the cell phone age may have to explain text messaging to her.

Thanks for the blog, it's a great way to keep up with things.

Sonja's Loving Husband,
Wesley

This trip could be just what you need to get off caffine, since you sort of cheated during Lent. And besides, H2O is the best thing for you. Glad to know the food is good thus far. Praying for a safe and wonderful trip for you and all the METS participants.

Whats up chuck, that is what it would be if I were eating lamb, yuck. I thought from the way you talked you would be eating and sleeping on the bus, not five star hotels. Hope you are having a good time and a learning experience. Diane says hello. Keep safe. Debra, did an outstanding job Sunday. Clarence
